Raising money for charity is a gallant thing to do, however, it is not easy. People think it is as easy as standing on a street corner with a can and talking about the charity, but it is not that simple.
Collecting money on the street is not that easy anyway. Have you ever stood in the middle of the city and tried to talk to strangers, to get them to donate? If you have, then you will know that it is soul destroying.
People ignore you or people want you to give them change without actually giving any money. It is not something that is recommended because people don’t want to be bothered on the street.
It is much easier to get donations off someone when you are giving them a service. This does not mean anything illicit, it just means that you should hold some sort of event or party to try and get donations.
If you are thinking of holding an event for charity, read on for some tips on how to go about organizing it and ideas for an actual event.
- Event – You will need to decide on what event that you want to have. Sometimes it is better to have a party with some sort of entertainment and charge money for the tickets. If it is the summer season, it is sometimes better to have an outdoor event. Therefore, you can charge for tickets and you can charge the vendors for the chance to have tables at the event. It is always better to do something that is fitting to the season. For example, there is no point to having a garden fete if it is snowing outside because no one would turn up and you will not make any money for your charity.
- Budget – You will have to be careful not to go over your budget. This is because if you do go over, then you will be taking money away from the charity. You should only go over budget if someone makes a donation to the event and not the charity alone. You might even have to have some sort of fundraiser to raise the money to pay for the event. You should definitely not ask the charity for some money towards the event. The event is your idea, so you have to be responsible for the funds. You could have a small fundraiser like selling cakes in work or if you work in a school, you could ask the students for their old toys, so that the school can sell to raise money for the big event.
- Organization – Organizing a massive event is not going to be easy. There will be times when it gets too much for you and you want to give up, but you shouldn’t. If you feel too stressed and you don’t think that you can cope, then you will be better off asking a professional company to do the organizing for you. If you do a web search for ‘event organization,’ you will find a decent company that specializes in organizing charitable events. Therefore, all you have to do is tell them what you want and they will do the rest. They will organize a venue, catering, invitations and anything else that you could possibly think of. You will be able to enjoy the event that way, and you won’t be stressing on the day.
