How frustrating is losing your keys? And doesn’t it seem the case that it always happens when you’re in a rush and have to be somewhere, or are trying to get in late at night when there is no-one else around? Unlike a mobile phone, you can’t just call it so that it reveals its location to you. When your keys are lost there is only one option, re-trace your steps and comb the area methodically.
So what can you do to prevent this situation from happening in the first place? Well, we’ve devised some handy tips to help you do just that:
Pick a resting spot
Putting up a key rack near to your front door can be an easy way to keep track of your keys. It’s a good idea to conceal this as much as possible though, as keeping your car and house keys next to your front door pose a security risk. Or how about a certain spot in the kitchen or elsewhere that you always walk past when on your way in and out of the house? Try and get yourself into the habit of always putting your keys in that place.
Buy a bright key ring
Bright coloured or distinctive key rings are much easier to spot than plain, dull coloured ones. You’ll be thankful of your garish key chain when you spot it poking out from under the sofa…
Get a spare set cut
If you lose your keys constantly it’s worth getting a spare set cut and keeping them in a safe (but memorable!) place in your home. That way you’ll always be able to lock up the house and leave on time without spending ages looking for your original set. Learn from your mistakes though and keep your back-up keys in the same place. You don’t want to end up with hundreds of keys to your house floating around!
And if all else fails, remember you can always get some key cover insurance that protects you from the expense of calling a locksmith out and replacing the locks yourself. Good luck!
