Okay, you are probably thinking… if I can not afford health insurance, what makes you think I can afford a discount dental and vision plan? And, just how is it going to help me if I could swing the cost? Plus, does discount mean that I would be getting less than adequate care?

I always thought the same things, too. I had heard about the discount dental plans before, but I did not know that it sometimes included other services until I started doing research on the subject. I lost my insurance coverage after losing my job, and paying the huge premiums required to continue the coverage was just not within my financial means. There had to be some assistance that was available… somewhere, right?

You are obviously smart enough to know that just because you do not have insurance…does not mean that you will not get sick! So, when your tooth throbs in pain… what are you supposed to do? Or, if you have kids… they need checkups… at the very least! Even if you tell yourself that YOU do not need to see a dentist every six months, kids are different. So again… what are you supposed to do to catch a bit of a break?

And, skeptic that I am… I was kind of shocked to find that a discount dental and vision plan is a very affordable and practical solution. Things must be PROVEN to me to be a good thing… I have been burned WAY too many times! So, lucky for me…

I had broken a tooth months before that was just a bit of an annoyance… but that had changed overnight. The pain was awful… Orajel was buying me some time, but I KNEW that I needed to schedule an appointment and take care of the problem… SOON! And, without insurance, I was really panicking… that is between one and two thousand dollars that I did not have. Um, hello… apparently the fact that I was without a job AND without any type of health insurance benefits was NOT getting through to some people.

That is when my massive search for help began to find a reputable company that offered assistance that I could afford. Of course, there is no shortage when it comes to ANYTHING that you search for on the internet… did you ever notice that? And, that held true for my search for ‘discount dental plans’… over two hundred fifty thousand results came up! Okay, this was going to take me quite a bit if time, I suspected. I wanted to find a company that had been in business for a good number of years, before handing over any of my money.

I narrowed it down to a few companies… and actually… one stood out above the others, because… it INCLUDED vision, prescription, and chiropractic benefits. They had either individual plans, or household plans, and…it did not even matter if the ‘household’ was related in any way, or not. But, like I said before… I wanted PROOF!

I went for my initial consultation, and was handed a prescription to help with the pain. Normally, I would not have been able to fill it, but this time I had a discount card. I went to the counter and asked the pharmacy technician to check what my out-of-pocket cost would be before they filled the prescription. I was told that the card would save me over half of the cost of the medication… sounded great to me!

But… the big test was the dental bill… I handed them my discount dental and vision plan card, and saved almost six hundred dollars! Wow… I think this was one of my best discoveries… in a VERY long time.
