It is usually not a question of if but when, that most people will have to use their insurance policies. If you have a teenage driver you will be very grateful for that policy. I worked in the auto insurance business for four years and most of the claims coming in are for rain, snow and teen age drivers. So many calls start with, “my son/daughter got rear ended yesterday, or my son/daughter hit a pole, a car or the garage.” It is inevitable with new drivers, they just hit things. People who have had perfect driving records for years suddenly find themselves with high premiums as the teens learn to drive with caution and care. Whether you life in Seattle or Spokane, auto insurance is a must for all drivers.
What about all the other kinds of insurance available? Just like auto insurance, it is only a matter of time before something happens to your house or yourself. We had friends recently that have their elderly father living with them. He decided to shower while they were taking a drive. For whatever reason the pipe to the shower broke spraying water in all directions for only about 15 minutes but ended up with $12,000 in water damage to their house. All the walls had to have the lower 12 inches removed and replaced, carpets moldy, bathroom cabinets destroyed, wood floors warped and ruined. It doesn’t take long and a small problem like a broken pipe can lead to disaster and suddenly all those premiums that have been paid for years are a life saver. The cost of insurance is high whatever kind you have, but the cost of not having it is much higher.
