Laptop Cover

Gadgets and technology typically have a fairly short lifespan. Even if you don’t expect your laptop to last forever, taking out some laptop cover may help you to avoid having to pay out to replace it before you are ready to.

Laptop cover may typically provide you with insurance for such things as;

– accidental damage including from liquids;

– theft of your laptop;

– breakdown cover outside of the manufacturer’s warranty period;

– cover if you are travelling outside of the UK;

– guaranteed 48 hour replacement once the claim is approved from some providers;

– up to 3GB of data backup storage.

Obviously laptop insurance doesn’t provide blanket cover for everything that could possibly happen to your laptop.

Like any other form of insurance, terms and conditions, exclusions and limitations will apply and you may wish to read these carefully to ensure you understand them. While these may not be particularly onerous, they may also include certain responsibilities for you, as the owner of the laptop, to help keep it that bit safer.

So, for example, you may find that:

– you typically may not be covered for damage if you have been messing about with the internals of your laptop or trying to fit accessories – and it all goes horribly wrong;

– theft of your laptop may typically only be covered if it is taken by forced entry to a locked secure location – if it disappears after you left it unattended for a couple of minutes in a public place, then it may not be covered;

– you may have to report the theft to the police within a certain time period;

– and make sure that you get a crime number that you can pass on to your insurers.

In addition, you may find that your laptop insurance carries an excess. That is is the sum of money that you would be expected to pay as the first part of any claim.

However, laptop insurance may help ensure that if an insured event happens, your laptop would be typically replaced within 48 hours of your claim being approved. Once you’d reinstated your data from the backup, you could be back online again very quickly.

Laptop cover is only one type of a range of gadget insurance products which are specifically designed to protect a wide range of the gadgets that form an important part of our day to day lives – and which are becoming increasing difficult to do without!
