Make the Most Out of Flying With AOPA Insurance

For pilots that are financing an aircraft or those that already own one, aviation insurance is necessary. The FBO insurance policy is not meant to cover owners or non-owners, it is to protect the FBO. Just as one would never drive without automobile insurance coverage, the same goes for when it is time to fly. AOPA insurance is quality insurance with underwriters that have been A rated.

The best thing about AOPA insurance is that owners, renters, and those borrowing an aircraft can each purchase their own policy. This insures that no matter whom it is operating the aircraft they carry policy coverage.

Having full AOPA insurance coverage means not becoming financially devastated should physical damage to the aircraft or any people that are harmed are covered. This means even if there is a total loss. Those that are non-owners, especially those just learning how to fly can consider a policy that covers them as soon as flight instruction lessons begin. Once a non-owner decides to buy an aircraft, the non-owner policy credit can be transferred to the aircraft they own.

Just as insurance rates for cars are based on certain factors, so it goes for aircraft insurance. The cost of the aircraft, pilot experience, geographical area, and rates charged by other insurance companies also factor into premium costs. For those financing an aircraft, the bank will have them cover ground insurance, but also in-flight hull insurance. Once paid for, it may be up to the owner, whether in-flight hull coverage will be continued.

Determining how much coverage is needed should be done based on what the aircraft would be replaced with should damage occur. If owners make any changes to the aircraft, updating the policy is recommended to make sure its increased value is covered.

Lowered AOPA insurance rates may be achieved for those that have not filed claims for a set amount of time. Protect their aircraft by making sure it stays in a hangar when not in use, and add to their flight times. Pilots that enjoy their aircraft the most are often those less worried should an accident occur. Carrying an effective insurance policy adds to that enjoyment.
