LIfe insurance has become necessity in everybody’s life. It is no more a need, that you can consider when you have extra money. Anyone with liability should have insurance to protect the loved ones in the event that you’re not with them anymore. The last thing you want is your children and wife thrown out of their home.
Analyze each and every type of insurance product available (if possible) before deciding which one is suitable for you in term of benefits and premium. There is another common group that buys insurance through their employer. This insurance comes in two types; namely the group insurance and the discounted personal plan. Normally, group insurance is provided by the employer himself, and the employee has an option to add additional plans.
Let me share with you some things that you have to remember when buying insurance through your employer:
- Make sure you go through every detail of the plan before committing yourself into it. Don’t think that the plan must good; otherwise your employer wouldn’t recommend it.
- Make sure that the plan still can be continued even if you have left the present employer, and most importantly, make sure the premium for the plan remains the same.
- Compare the offered plan with other plans in the market, before deciding.
- Make sure to study the background of the insurance company. Normally, small or new companies tend make this kind of offers to boost their sales and market share.
- Check whether you can buy the plan for your spouse or children at discounted rate as well (My company had this benefit in their plan).
Remember, buying insurance is your responsibility and it is for your own and family needs. Therefore, you’re the one responsible in making sure you get the best value for the money. No point pointing fingers at the insurance agents, or your employers for not giving you a good plan.
I’m not trying to create an impression that, buying insurance through your employer is bad. My advice is just be careful when buying insurance plans, because it is a lifetime commitment for afterlife needs (for your family).
